Florida Hospital Flagler also offers a Cardiac Wellness & Rehabilitation Program. The first days and weeks after you get out of the hospital after a cardiac event or diagnosis can be a frightening, confusing time. You may be taking new medicines and following many new instructions. You may sometimes feel as if your world has changed.
“Once you have a heart attack, you have coronary artery disease for the rest of your life and will continue to be prone to other cardiac events,” said Lisa Wilkinson, Manager of the Florida Hospital Flagler Cardiac Rehabilitation Center. “By participating in a Cardiac Rehabilitation program, patients are reducing their likelihood of another heart attack by 50 percent.”
Cardiac Rehabilitation is a professionally supervised program to help
people recover from heart attacks, heart surgery and percutaneous
coronary intervention (PCI) procedures such as stenting and
angioplasty. Cardiac Rehabilitation staff, which include a registered
nurse and exercise physiologist, lead participants through a
personalized exercise program designed for their specific heart
problems. Heart patients are carefully monitored throughout the
one-hour exercise sessions, which focus on cardiovascular health,
muscular strength and flexibility. Extensive education on heart disease
is also provided and includes information on how to reduce risk
factors, eat right, control blood pressure, and understand the signs
and symptoms of a heart attack or stroke. For more information, please
