Radiation Oncology Services
Florida Hospital Flagler patients not only benefit from talented physicians, specialists and nurses collaborating on their case, but they also have access to the latest technology and treatment options.
Our Radiation Oncology department is dedicated to providing the most highly advanced program of treatment and patient care available to cancer patients. Florida Hospital Flagler Radiation Oncologist Dr. Alvaro Alvarez and the radiation oncology staff provide expert technical and clinical care, and are attentive to meeting you and your loved ones' needs and concerns. Radiation Oncology offers the latest in technology and expertise in cancer related procedures, including:
Three-Dimensional Treatment Planning
CT-guided 3-D treatment planning that provides more precise information in determining plans, improving accuracy and treatment results that best treat the tumor.
Prostate Seed Implants
Prostate Seed Implants is a one-time outpatient procedure that administers radiation directly to the prostate, minimizing treatment to the bladder and bowel. Radioactive seeds are then precisely placed in the prostate gland using ultrasound guidance to kill cancerous cells.
External Beam Radiation
Daily treatment from external radiation source that targets the affected area. This is a standard radiation therapy that uses 3-D imaging for treatment planning.
IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy)
Higher doses of radiation are delivered directly to cancer cells while sparing more of the surrounding healthy tissue. IMRT is an external beam radiation therapy that uses 3-D imaging for treatment planning. Tumors thought to be untreatable due to close proximity of vital organs and structures are now treatable with a significant reduction in doses to normal tissue and decreased risk of side effects.
IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy)
Imaging of the affected body area prior to initiation of treatment to assure the accuracy and safety of radiation therapy.
SRS (Stereotactic RadioSurgery)
Stereotactic Radiosurgery is the latest in cancer surgery techniques, allowing more precise targeting of affected tissues in particular cancers such as brain, lung, and liver cancer.
In addition to these services, the Radiation Oncology Center has access to cutting edge diagnostic services, including:
- Breast Imaging
- Computed Radiography
- Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA)
- 16-Slice Computed Tomography Scanning (CT Scans)
- 3-D Reconstruction (CT)
- Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA)- (Femoral Runoffs, MRA Abdomens,) MRCPs and Perfusion and Diffusion Brain MRI
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) - 1.5 Tesla Magnet
- Nuclear Medicine/SPECT
- PACS
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
- Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT)
