Florida Hospital Flagler Expands

Patients benefit from new Progressive Care Unit and

the first hospital in Florida to implement the

Emergin Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) System

On Monday, June 16th, Florida Hospital Flagler officially opened the doors to the new Progressive Care Unit (PCU).

“This new inpatient unit is for those patients who do not need the intensive nursing of critical care, but do need more nursing care than what is provided on general nursing units,” said Amanda Clarke, RN MSN, Nursing Manager for Florida Hospital Flagler’s PCU and Second Floor.  “The PCU will provide intermediate levels of care for our patients requiring additional comprehensive care over the regular telemetry unit.”

In addition, Florida Hospital Flagler will be the first hospital in Florida with the Emergin Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) System in use.  Emergin ESB System is an advanced technological system that alerts the nurse to any patient heart rhythm alarms.  It also offers three-tier notification escalation to ensure a rapid response to patient care needs, even if the nurse is engaged in other activities. Marquee displays in the hall and nurses’ station also add extra security for our patients as everyone available responds to emergencies.  This gives the nursing staff at Florida Hospital Flagler the ability to receive automated critical patient status updates and alerts via mobile handsets, regardless of where the nurses happen to be in the building.  This new technology will further increase productivity and the overall quality of patient care, while giving the nursing staff the flexibility to move about the facility with increased security. The Emergin ESB System will be launched on June 16th in PCU, and will then go live to the rest of the hospital in July.

"Our goal is to provide our staff with mobile access to information, regardless of when and where they need it to support safer, more efficient care," said Eunmee Shim, Florida Hospital Flagler VP of Clinical Services.
