Florida Hospital Flagler
Provides Nearly 100 FREE Leg Alert Screenings!
On Sunday, July 27 from 1PM – 4PM Florida Hospital Flagler provided nearly 100 FREE Peripheral Vascular “Leg Alert” screenings to members of the Volusia and Flagler County community.
The Peripheral Vascular “Leg Alert” screening can determine if a patient has indications of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). PAD is the result of plaque build-up in the blood vessels outside of the heart which causes narrowing or blockage of the vessel and prohibits blood to flow normally. If the carotid artery becomes blocked by a blood clot, a stroke can occur. People with PAD are 4 to 5 times at risk for stroke.
On average, a stroke occurs every 40 seconds, striking approximately 780,000 Americans this year. Timely treatment can make or break the patient’s recovery. Florida Hospital Flagler is designated by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration as a stroke treatment facility. This designation means Florida Hospital Flagler has:
· “Stroke Alert” priority status – patients receive CT scans, lab tests and neurological examinations within 45 minutes of arrival at Florida Hospital Flagler
· Hospital staff specially trained to recognize and treat stroke
· A streamlined process and standardized protocol for treating stroke patients across all facets of care – from ER to rehabilitation
· Access to the latest life-saving healthcare technologies
When a stroke happens, seconds count. Your best chance for a good outcome is to seek medical attention within three hours of symptom onset. As a designated stroke treatment facility, Florida Hospital Flagler is here to help you.
