The Volunteer Auxiliary of Florida Hospital Flagler Celebrate Millions!
During September, the Volunteer Auxiliary of Florida Hospital Flagler will celebrate the completion of 1 million hours of service and $1 million in donations to the hospital. Over the past 25 years, volunteers have raised funds for wheelchairs, windows, artwork, special events and equipment. In addition to the funds raised for the hospital, they have given more than $60,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors and Daytona Beach Community College students interested in future medical careers.
The theme of the celebration is “Remembering the Past and Looking Forward to the Future.” On Monday, September 15, at 1PM, invited guests from the community, local officials, officers, directors and managers of hospital departments, and representatives from the Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation, will join the Volunteer Auxiliary for a special program to celebrate this important milestone together. The program will include Posting of the Colors, prizes and a slide presentation of the Auxiliary’s history, focusing on the legacy of the volunteers from the “early days” of the hospital.
Volunteers typically spend four to eight hours each week helping in one of the hospital’s departments, such as the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Women’s Center, Gift Shop, American Cancer Society Resource Center, Nurses’ Station, Visitors’ Desk, etc. At present, there are approximately 300 volunteers, including about 250 active and 50 lifelong members. Volunteers of all ages participate in the Volunteer Auxiliary, including approximately 30 high school student volunteers from Flagler/Palm Coast or Matanzas High School.
