Home Run for HospiceCare

The Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation raised more than $20,000 at the eighth annual Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House Golf Classic on Monday, June 7 at Hammock Dunes Links Course. More than 80 people attended the shotgun-start shamble golf tournament in support of the nonprofit, faith-based hospice program.

The first place winners were Jim Knight , Jeremy Miller, Henry Reid and Drew Pettengill with a score of 104.

The Story of the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House: Who Is Stuart F. Meyer?

Stuart F. Meyer moved to Palm Coast in 1995, and shortly thereafter was diagnosed with cancer. While receiving care as a hospice patient, he learned of other hospice patients who, without the blessing of family members to care for them, needed a place in Flagler County to receive compassionate end-of-life care in a homelike setting.

To honor Stuart’s memory, his family, friends, and community members banded together to help build the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House.

Located on the campus of Florida Hospital Flagler, the 8 bed hospice house opened in April 2007. As a general inpatient unit designed with “home” in mind, the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House is staffed around-the-clock by caregivers trained to provide hospice patients with more acute needs a place to receive care.

From opening day through December 2009, more than 500 patients have received care at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, demonstrating the great need for hospice care within Flagler County. Florida Hospital HospiceCare is proud to serve these patients and their families through the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House.
