
The Florida Hospital campuses in Volusia and Flagler counties have united forces to “shine a light” on breast cancer in an effort to highlight the importance of early detection and annual mammograms. All six Florida Hospital campuses’ now emit a pink glow at night for all to see. The lights will remain pink for the entire month of October, in hopes that it serves as a visual reminder for women to get their screening mammograms.
Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, accounting for nearly 1 in 4 cancers diagnosed in US women. The American Cancer Society estimates that approximately 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and nearly 40,000 will die from breast cancer in 2010.
